My name is Mark Baird. Over the years, I have learned that the primary purpose of my life is to create opportunities for others to minister. And with the establishment of our 501c3 non-profit, Patriotic Hearts, and our popular HirePatriots program, I am able to provide endless opportunities for anyone who feels within themselves an urgent need to be of value and assistance to those in their community and across our nation.

At first glance, it would seem that our organization just serves US military, veterans and their families. And we certainly do. Our programs focus on strengthening the lives of US military members, past and present. But we also help as many civilian residents and local business owners too. So our program really reaches everyone.

Our first step is to get those that served in the US military on firm financial footing. We provide daily jobs for them until they are able to secure a full time job that sustains themselves and their families. We do this by two means.

One Day Jobs: HirePatriots is entirely unique in that we provide the only job board for community residents all across America to hire a local US active duty, Reserve, Guard or veteran to help them get their daily chores, repairs, cleaning and yard work done well. – But the benefits of this program extend far beyond just providing a daily means for US veterans to earn extra income everyday.

HirePatriots has received the “Visionary Award” for “Creating Economic Development.” It stimulates local economies and helps businesses remain in business and keep their employees employed. – The thousands of jobs taken from our local HirePatriots sites every year generates a stimulus to local economies.

The residents who hire their local military from our job board are so enthusiastic about their experiences that they volunteer to pass the word about HirePatriots to their neighbors, friends, associates, churches, and clubs. They often create their own community of volunteers that speak on our behalf at organizations, on TV, radio and to the Press.

It is such volunteers across the country that have brought our program to the attention of their Mayors, County Supervisors, and Congressmen. It has resulted in our receiving the highest awards given to civilians during war time by our last two Presidents, Bush and Obama: The “Congressional Medal of Merit and the “Presidents Call to Service Medal.”

Ultimately, HirePatriots goal is to assist in finding full time employment for the men and women we honor. And towards this end, we also provide a very popular and sophisticated and free job board for companies that also want to hire US veterans and their spouses.

But there is so much more that we do in which you can participate as a resident or as a business owner.

Because we are a 501c3 non-profit, we are able to create a variety of critical and rewarding programs beneath our tax exempt umbrella for our beloved US military members, veterans and their families. And patriotic residents have approached us with great ideas that we have incorporated and even put them in charge of. — Here is our current list:

The only limitation to our providing these programs is funding. And so towards that end we have created an innovative and immensely successful Cause Marketing strategy for US businesses, despite their size. And for veterans and patriots who feel a passionate desire to spend their lives helping others, this program has an income opportunity for those who assist us in finding corporate sponsors. They are called our “US Veteran Ambassadors.”

Our Cause Marketing program currently has 45 companies involved, stretching from the East Coast to Hawaii. Some of these businesses are huge, like Verizon, others are SDVOBs and some are start-ups. – These veteran owned and patriotic for-profit enterprises are the sponsors of our sites. They provide the local HirePatriots job board and reap the rewards for doing so.

First, we look for veterans, patriotic volunteers and business partners that believe in every word of America’s “Pledge of Allegiance.” Essential to our cohesiveness as an effective team is for us to share a mutual love and respect for the United States. Therefore, we “pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America: One nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.”

Secondly, to accomplish the tasks of building an established outreach that serves hundreds of thousands of US Military, veterans and their families, we must also share a true empathy for the lives of those that defend the light that our nation and its warriors provide the world.

We also insist that every member of our team always goes the extra mile to protect the integrity of our program by always being courteous, honest, humble and helpful. – We must always welcome and attract any American or patriotic business that wants to participate. And so we always treat others as we want to be treated.

Regional Leader Opportunity: For businessowners

HirePatriots.com is a unique job board for our U.S. Military, Veterans and their spouses. It has an extensive full time job board. But it also has a unique job board that connects community residents and businesses with their local troops, sailors, airmen and vets.

One Day (off-duty) Jobs: Residents and businesses post jobs when they need help for a few hours or a couple of days. Local military respond to these posting. They show up clean, full of energy and willing to work hard to earn some extra money. It is a practical win-win that benefits everyone.

Our summer beach job fair

These One Day job postings have been a delight. It allows a way for local residents to meet some of the military members based nearby face to face. They are such wonderful people. And they always address us with military courtesy: “Yes, sir!” or “Yes, ma’am!”

These jobs help relieve some of the stress that our new, professional U.S. Military already endure. They are on the front lines, protecting us. The extra money they earn helps a lot. And it always feels great when you can bring a smile to and lighten the load of these hardy American patriots.

Coming back together

Military Marriage Enrichment Retreats

Most marriages need help, especially when they are newer. But when young marriages endure the stresses of military life, deployments, and frequent combat tours combined with the financial stresses and anxieties that we all face, it can feel like too much to bear.

The divorce rate among our lower enlisted, especially those serving combat tours, is astronomical! Many of these unions also have children. It is so tragic that these great Americans, who have given so much for our country and for freedom, must suffer the lost of their marriages and children as a result. – Wives on US Military bases refer it as “The Plague.”

We have seen that most of these extremely painful break-ups are not really necessary. What couples need is a romantic weekend that also has small group meetings with other military couples and teaching about how to make their relationships work.

Enjoying being together

On the first evening, there are always couples that come who are on the verge of divorce. Some even tell us this as they arrive. A few have even discussed how to divide time with their kids after they split up. – Our retreat is a last resort for them.

But when the next day begins and the couples all sit together on plush sofas and carpet to watch our program on CD, the pairs cuddle, eat popcorn, drink sodas, laugh, jab, and cry. And they see the other couples going through the same emotions. Wives feel the embrace of their husbands’ loving arms; and, men feel their wives soften. They begin to feel like they used to. And they remember that together is the very best place to be in the whole world.

After 6 Military Marriage Enrichment Retreats, to our best knowledge, only one couple has broken up. – After 4 tours in Iraq, he was deployed to Japan for 18 months. He received a “Dear John” letter a few weeks after he got there. – We keep in touch with our couples. They call us when they need help. And we provide some extra special things that I’ll keep secret for those that have not yet attended.

Oceanside Harbor surrounds the retreat

We have been hosting these 3 day, all expenses paid, retreats in the Oceanside Harbor at a hotel that just out into the water. The rooms are suites. The views are gorgeous. The food is from local fine restaurants. And the hurt, anger, resentment and misunderstandings dissolve during our fun marriage enrichment sessions.

Not all of the marriages that attend our retreats are falling apart. Many just need the time away from the kids to just focus on eachother. And these stable marriages make a therapeutic balance during our weekends together. Some even come back as counselors.

Six years ago, an injured Marine came to our door one night after returning from Iraq. He discovered that his wife had lost her job while he was deployed, and that she and their two small children had lived for several weeks without any utilities except for cold water.

So at 8PM one evening this Marine knocked on our door. He was looking for immediate work to provide for his family. He asked if there was any work or repairs that I needed done, so that he could earn some money.
