US Veterans Magazine

Posted by on in News
There are a few magazines specifically for veterans. Some are not really about the military or veterans, instead they are about selling advertising, not content. US Veterans Magazine publishes content that is directed at informing and promoting the men and women that serve and who have served in our US Military. It is stock full of interesting, inspirational and educational articles and reports about people and issues that impact US veterans. -- It is also a great read for companies that want to recruit US veterans. They even hold seminars to teach businesses how.  I am promoting this magazine because I...

Helping U.S. Veterans: A Purpose Filled Life

Posted by on in Community
Patriotic Hearts is a 501c3 non-profit, founded in 2007. It was inspired by a US Marine that knocked on our door in 2004, after being wounded in Iraq. The utilities had been turned off in this young man’s house. He had a wife and two toddlers. And he was looking for some immediate, extra work to get the heat and lights turned back on. We helped him, of course. And my wife made a hot meal for his family. -- And then we hired a company to make a website and job board for community residents to post jobs whenever they...

Hear how well they doing. And then join us as we reach our goal of employing 100,000 US veterans across America.     Here is a LinkedIn post with more details: A Business for US Veterans to Own  ...

I have been working with US veterans that have war trauma since 1970, during the Vietnam War. Plus, I struggle with PTSD myself. For these veterans leaving the military and re-entering civilian life is often difficult. They have a hard time keeping any job and supporting themselves and their families.  I created my One Day job board particularly for them. These are jobs posted by local community residents who need an extra hand with chores and repairs. here in San Diego, we have had well over 100,000 veterans take these jobs. They literally have been a life saver! Many guys can...

Memorial Day: A Day for Mourning

Posted by on in News
Dear fellow U.S. citizens of all stripes and colors: On May 30 of every year, Americans across our nation dedicate a day to remembering our war dead. It is a solemn occasion. Decorating the graves of our Armed Forces who died in combat is a tradition we have kept since the Civil War. It is good and right that we should and must do so. They all deserve this day. It is the least that we can do for their willingness to give their lives to protect ours. I have attended many Memorial Day events in parks and at national cemeteries....

A Business Start-Up that Employs US Veterans

Posted by on in Biz Ops
If you are wondering how to earn a good living after military life, take a look: A year ago, Patriotic Hearts, a charitable organization that focuses on providing programs that help veterans get back on their feet after transitioning from the US military, created a program called US Military Maintenance. Its purpose is two-fold: One, it provides an inexpensive way for veterans to start a business and begin earning money right away. Two, it employs US veterans and pays them an industry leading wage. After one year, we have gotten over a dozen US veterans going in US Military Maintenance. Some...

In Defense of The Wounded Warrior Project

Posted by on in News
Recently CBS and some other news and media agencies have publicized some areas of concern about how donations to The Wounded Warrior Project, a premier veteran charity, have been spent. The criticism focuses mostly on expenditures on trips, meetings, conventions, hotels and first class airfare. But they failed to say that those expenses were just about 7% of their total revenue. That does not seem unreasonable for a nationwide charity with locations all across America. The Wounded Warrior Project was founded by a dear, old friend of mine, John Melia. He is a humble and honest man. He is my age...

Your Job Search after 35

Posted by on in News
Advice from a CEO You have lived long and accomplished a lot. You know that you can be an effective employee for a company if given the opportunity. You have a proven track record. And you have written a thorough list of it all. However, the purpose of a resume is not to get a job; it is to get an interview. So we do not want to give our entire work history, just highlights that will spark interest so the company will invite you in to hear more. Instead of long list of your duties and accomplishments, summarize them. The ideal...

'He Saved My Life': Service Dog Helps Vet Overcome PTSD, Brain Injury  U.S. Marine Corp Cpt. Jason Haag (Ret.) and his German shepherd, Axel, appeared on "Fox and Friends Weekend" this morning to discuss the importance of service dogs to our veterans.  After two tours in Iraq and one in Afghanistan, Haag returned home suffering from severe PTSD and a traumatic brain injury.  He reached out to K9s For Warriors, an organization that provides service dogs to wounded veterans. About five months later, he was matched with Axel.  "Without him, I wouldn't be sitting here today," Haag said of his four-legged friend,...
