Almost 70 years ago the United States of America was thrust into WWII, which pitted good against evil. A generation of Americans answered their nation’s call to duty and saved the world from evil. They are known as the Greatest Generation and they are with us today. They not only saved the world but came back to help build the greatest nation the world has ever known.
Honor Flight is a national non-profit organization whose sole purpose is to transport WWII veterans on an all expense paid day trip to see their memorial in Washington, DC. In November of last year Honor Flight of West Central Florida was formed. Honor Flight is a rare group in that ALL donations go to support the cause; all 16 of the board members serve without compensation.
Of the 16 million Americans who served in World War II fewer than 2.3 million are still with us. It is estimated that we lose 1,000 of these amazing heroes every day; time is not on Honor Flight’s side.
They have over 300+WWII veterans’ applications and hope to fly 4 times this year, out of West Central Florida, starting in May and running through Oct 2011. They will continue to fly for as many years as it takes, then move on to the Korean War Veterans, then Vietnam Veterans.
Their website is www.honorflightwcf.org and you can donate via the Paypal link. They can also accept check donations; please make the check out to HFWCF and mail to Honor Flight of West Central Florida, P.O. Box 55661 St. Petersburg, FL 33732.
They are also looking for 80+ companies in Florida to donate $500.00 four times a year.
Please help today, there is not much time as the average age of a WWII veteran is 87 years old. We as a nation owe so much to these heroic man and women who served in WWII. We have so much to be thankful for and the greatest generation made all that we have possible.
