The Los Angeles Film School, Military Services Department presents

The Annual Salute: Honoring and Employing Veterans in Entertainment

Dear Friends,

I am proud to extend an invitation to the 3rd Annual Salute: Honoring and Employing Veterans in Entertainment.  Our campus on Sunset Boulevard in the heart of Hollywood services an approximate active student population of 400 Veterans and hundreds of alumni who return for select events. In the ongoing interest of their personal and professional advancement, the Military Services Department identifies, supports and celebrates our Veterans. In striving to offer academic and professional enrichment events to this segment of our student body and alumni, our third event promises to be grander than last year.

This is an opportune time for corporate sponsors and key employers to enjoy high profile, exclusive exposure.  A red carpet step and repeat, ceremony for the GI Film Festival award winners, and evening celebration with keynote speaker Michele S. Jones, Director of the U.S. Office of Personnel Management and the First Lady’s Joining Forces initiative will precede silent and live auctions benefitting wounded warriors and their families through the injured Marine Semper Fi Fund. The main festivities will be held on the 237th birthday of the United States Marine Corps: Saturday, November 10, 2012.

Corporate sponsors, employers and donors: we promise you first-class events and premium exposure to publicity and our deserving Veterans.

Please take the opportunity to review the enclosed sponsorship information. We hope that you will join us as a supporter that will publicly champion and celebrate transitioning Combat Veterans and injured Marines.  For more information about the 3rd Annual Salute, please contact Amber Chaib at (818) 519-7831 or military@lafilm.com.

 Kind regards,

 Amber Chaib

About the Los Angeles Film School and our event partners

The Los Angeles Film School, and its division, the  Los Angeles Recording School* is an accredited college for Film, Recording Arts, Computer Animation, Game Production and Entertainment Business located on Sunset Boulevard in the heart of Hollywood. Approximately 18% (400) of the student population has an affiliation with the U.S. Armed Forces, most of which are combat veterans.

Our Military Services Department

The Military Services Department works in tandem with each division of the Los Angeles Film School and the Los Angeles Recording School* to ensure Veteran Affairs and Department of Defense compliance measures, assess internal career openings for Veterans and execute active outreach, to include community service initiatives. We interface with students, alumni and entertainment industry COI’s to foster a collaborative network, promoting employment and opportunities for professional exposure exclusively for Veterans.

The Annual Salute

Each November, in honor of Veterans Day, the Military Services Department invites patriotic sponsors and employers to join forces and deliver an exclusive sequence of events for our Veteran community associated with each program of study. This year, on Saturday, November 10th, the GI Film Festival joins our institution for their Hollywood debut.  Another new edition is our association with the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences.  The day’s events and award ceremony will culminate in a rooftop dinner and auction at our campus in Hollywood, on the 237th birthday of the United States Marine Corps. Net proceeds from sponsorships and the auction will jointly benefit the Semper Fi Fund and the GI Film Festival, both 501©3’s.

The Semper Fi Fund

The Semper Fi Fund (SFF), http://www.semperfifund.org,is a non-profit organization that provides financial assistance and quality of life solutions for Marines and Sailors, as well as members of the Army, Air Force and Coast Guard who serve in support of Marine forces, when they become injured in post 9-11 combat or training operations, or they face life-threatening illness or injury. The fund provides relief to qualified Service members and their families for immediate financial needs that arise during hospitalization and recovery, as well as perpetuating needs such as home modifications, customized transportation and specialized equipment.  The Semper Fi Fund’s streamlined structure keeps overhead very low – at 5% – understanding every dollar saved can be put to better use elsewhere. The American Institute of Philanthropy has given us an “A+” rating and Charity Navigator has awarded them the “Four Star” rating, the highest rating for each organization.

The GI Film Festival

The GI Film Festival (GIFF), www.gifilmfestival.com, a 501(c)3, is a non-profit educational organization dedicated to sharing and preserving the military experience in and out of the arena of war. The GIFF provides a forum for new and established international and domestic filmmakers to present their films that share the heroic stories of the Armed Forces and the worldwide struggle for freedom and liberty.  Owing to its success in fostering a positive image for the American GI, in 2010 the GI Film Festival was awarded with the American Legion’s National Commander Public Relations Award (previously awarded to media greats such as Tim Russert, Jack Valenti and Tom Brokaw). The GI Film Festival is the first film festival in the nation to exclusively celebrate the successes and sacrifices of the service member through the medium of film and TV.

The GI Film Festival Hollywood

The GI Film Festival Hollywood is unique to The Los Angeles Film School’s Annual Salute, restricting submissions for the festival solely to Veteran above-the-line talent. Fellow Veteran film talent, along with sponsors, take the lead to determine the peer awards.

Hello, I'm Mark Baird and I founded Hire Patriots. My wife and I are 'helpers.' We are concerned about meeting the practical needs of our US veterans veterans and their families. We began a job board for local residents to post chores that they need help with. It has been very successful. Thousands of local US Military and veterans partially or entirely support themselves from our website. We are looking for others near US Military bases who would also like to have a HirePatriots.com website for their location. We also hold welcome home parties, military marriage retreats, job fairs and create military family gardens.
