Business owners are given a Biblical model for increasing their profits and being blessed in return. It requires turning our business into a ministry. — “Let each of you look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others.” Philippians 2:4
Of course, everything that a Believer does should be done unto God. Meaning and purpose can be found in any chore. Every action, word and thought of our lives should manifest his presence within us. But this also applies to our businesses. They are an extension of ourselves. Our companies are the ‘fruit’ of our lives by which we are known. They are our witness to the world.
These are key elements to achieve prosperity as a ‘believing’ business owner:
1) “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16.
The first and most important step is to believe that God exists and to give our lives to him. He already loves us. All we must do is to love him back. That relationship changes everything. Now the burden of making our destiny is lifted. Someone greater and wiser than we are is now in charge.
2) “As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God’s varied grace.” 1 Peter 4:10
Being a successful business owner is a gift given to a certain group of people. We were created for the purpose of being ‘entrepreneurs.’ We share the responsibility of being the backbone of our nation. Our purpose is to create industry and a healthy economy. God has given us vision, certain wisdom and extraordinary perseverance. We provide others the means to support themselves and their families. We have the opportunity to bless multitudes, and to receive a myriad of blessings in return.
3) “Unless the Lord builds the house, they labor in vain who build it.” Psalm 127:1
Just as we gave our lives to him, we must also give God our businesses. He should be the true CEO. As we conform our businesses to his purpose and plans, it permits him to direct the course of our companies. — If we do, we are promised: “If you humble yourselves, under God’s mighty hand, he will lift you up.” 1 Peter 5:6
This is the Biblical way for us to have strength, guidance and peace as we go through the trials of business ownership. – When we put our faith in heaven’s highest authority to run our business he promises: “It is not necessary for you rise early and stay up late, toiling for food to eat—for I grant sleep to those I love.” – Go into business with him as your controlling partner, and you “will lie down and sleep in safety for the Lord is watching over you. Even if ten thousand enemies surround you on every side, you will not tremble nor be afraid.” Psalm 3:5-6
4) “Give and it will be given to you. Good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap. For with the measure you use it will be measured back to you.” Luke 6:38
The most telling aspect of our Creator’s personality is his love, manifested in his generous giving. The Bible claims that every day, all of us receive his blessings. God is continuously giving. And he wants us to be like him and to give too.
So our businesses must not just be about making profits for ourselves. — “Whoever is generous to the poor lends to the Lord, and God will repay him for his deed.” Proverbs 19:17 — This is an excellent business model because God promises to repay us when we help others. Trusting his promises is the key to succeeding in business.
