Transitioning from any vocation after 25 years is tough. But transitioning from an organization like the Armed Forces has got to be one of the most difficult transitions. Sure, we all talk about how we can’t wait to get out of the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines; but the truth is, there’s a camaraderie in the Military that most will never understand. So, I decided, when I do make my transition, I will find a way to continue serving Service Members and their families.
About two years ago, I was out of shape, lazy and getting over weight. So I decided to do something about it. After my awesome transformation with a Beachbody product called Insanity, a few people started asking me what I was doing. I had no desire to start a business at the time but it just seemed so natural since I was already telling everyone what I was doing and helping then through the various Beachbody programs (Insanity, P90X, Focus T25 etc.). So I started my Team Beachbody business and called my business Top Fit Training.
But then something magical happened, I grew into myself as a business owner. By the suggestion of my mentors, I started reading more personal development books, listening to self help audios in my car and studying other successful people in the industry. As I grew, my business grew with me. Once I started getting some momentum I subscribed Top Fit Training to Buy Veteran, Vetrepreneur Magazine, and Veteran Owned Business. It was through these great organizations that Tori and Mark Baird found me.
Tori called me to ask me if I would considering partnering with and being the Ambassador of a program called HirePatriots.com. She gave me some brief information over the phone then sent me more info via email. After learning what Hire Patriots is doing for Service member, veterans and their families I was all in.
This is what I have been looking to do once I separate from the Army. This was the perfect way to spend my time and give back to the organization that gives us so much.
WHAT IS HIRE PATRIOTS?
Hire Patriots is a web site where residents can post one-day jobs for Service members, veterans of their spouses can apply for and do in their off time. Some of the jobs posted include babysitting, clearing brush out a yard, loading/unloading trucks, mechanic work, running cat5 cable, accounting… you name it, it’s posted and Service Members do it.
WE NEED MORE ONE-DAY JOBS POSTED
The problem is, for every one-day job posted, there are about 45 applicants. So, we need more one-day jobs posted. If you’re in the Hawaii area please post your jobs at www.HirePatriots.com/Hawaii or share this information with everyone you know on Oahu.
This program helps Service members make a few extra bucks, it helps our residents get some work done around the house, yard of office, it’s a great way for our community to get to know our service members, and it stimulates the economy because our military families spend that money back in the community.
