God tells us in the Bible that men and women are created differently so that they can make perfect partners. – And cooperation in the process of creating completeness is seen throughout the universe. It is never a solitary thing.
Men are told to love their wives in such a way that they will make their wives more important than themselves in all things, even if it requires us to die doing so. To always protect their honor, to forgive them and to be gentle, kind, differential and loving. –Just as much as Jesus Christ loves his Church and died to redeem and to save us, so every husband is to love their wives the same way.
And wives have even a more difficult requirement: Christian wives are instructed to love, honor, submit to and obey their husbands!
But we are all so flawed. How can it ever be reasonable for us to surrender our lives to someone else? Because no one is trustworthy. God’s word declares that no human being is trustworthy nor good. He even commands us to “Call no man good.” – So how is this edict for husbands and wives to follow even possible for us to obey?
As a man, I find it incredible when my wife, who knows all of my flaws so entirely well, can trust me, follow me, submit to me and obey me, particularly when I am a grouch, demeaning, overbearing, arrogant or angry. – But there is only one possible way for any of us to find the strength and the ability to follow God’s way: It requires faith. Yes, everything about the true Creator and God goes back to believing that he exists and that he died on the Cross to prove it and to save us. –This makes it possible for us to trust him. – He has nail holes in his hands.
It requires faith and a true relationship with God before anyone can begin to follow and to obey Him. Trust is an essential necessity for growth in God. – And why should we trust him? – Because he has nail holes in his hands. He loves us. And Jesus has proven God’s love for you by suffering the eternal consequences of our shameful acts and those regrets and bad memories, the multitude of them that float across our minds and hold us in the grip of guilt until they pass. – We all need forgiveness. And God’s love provides it through Jesus Christ.
And this act of God: Stepping down from his throne in Heaven to become a human and to suffer as all of us do, and to forgive us by experiencing death and Hell for us, is almost the entire message of Christianity.
In a poor but contemporary analogy, the acts of God and Christ provides the engine. But we must supply the gasoline, which is our faith, in order to make it complete and effective.
And what is “Faith?” – Faith is the confident assurance that God loves you in a very personal, emotional and actively involved way. He is good. God is loving. He is the perfect Father. He always wants the very best for us. He is always for us, never against us.
If we believe this wholeheartedly, we are transformed into supernatural humans. Our eyes will be opened and we will begin to see the miracles, blessings, direction, love of our Creator and his purpose for our lives.
So in whatever situation we find ourselves, the answer is always Faith.—This world and our life experiences are all to first bring us to God, and then to increase our faith, belief, reliance, grip, love, intimacy and friendship with Him. – And we will always fail in any attempt to obey him if we do not really believe that Jesus loves us. It is absurd to expect otherwise.
In those team building exercises that we have nowadays, things like being blindfolded and then falling straight backwards, relying on your team member to catch you. Even better: The story of Peter, a fisherman, stepping out of his boat in the middle of a storm, to walk on the water towards Jesus. – This requires TRUST.
Faith and trust are the same. It is what is required in any true, loving relationship. And that is what God wants with all of humankind.
Jesus claims that “I AM the Way the Truth and the Life.” – Here are the names that Isaiah, the Old Testament prophet, wrote about Jesus more than 2,600 years ago: “His name shall be called “Wonderful, Counselor, Almighty God, the Everlasting Father and Prince of Peace.”
Knowing Jesus is the only way to find real happiness, love and personal fulfillment. – There are a million ways to get our attention and to distract us from our real purpose in life. — “Broad is the road and wide is the gate that leads to destruction.” – But for any of us to discover the real and absolute answer to all of life’s questions, the reason for our existence and how to be happy and peaceful, there is only One Way: “But narrow is the path and small is the gate that leads to everlasting life. And few there are who find it.”
Here are some of the words that the Bible uses to describe finding peace in God: “Believe, trust, rest, wait, abide, lean on, and rely.” — It also says that just as a child finds safety, rest and security in the arms of its mother, so we Christians are to find it in our Savior.
