First, every job seeking US veteran should go to their nearest America Job Center. This is a national Labor Dept. program that has a mandate to give US veterans priority service. They are in every state with multiple offices. Veterans should apply for “Tier II” status. They will be assigned a personal case manager with the instructions to prepare veterans for employment and to introduce them to companies in the area that are hiring. The Tier II program will reimburse employers 50% of the salary they pay to their Tier II candidates. This is a big help in getting them hired.
This is what HirePatriots can do for US veterans:
1) We work individually with each US veteran that reaches out to us. We ask for their resume and talk to them awhile and make sure that they are “work ready.” We ask them to search for jobs on HirePatriots.com Careers job board and find some they want. If we feel confident about them, we will begin introducing them to companies on our job board that have positions open in their area of experience. We will set an appointment with a decision maker and the veteran. — We do this for free. (Yes, we need serious, committed volunteers to help us. When funding becomes available, we will gladly compensate any volunteers who need it.)
2) HirePatriots.com provides a One Day job board for local communities to hire their US military, veterans and their spouses. When residents need an extra hand with chores or repairs around their homes and yards, they post their jobs for free. They say where, describe the work needed, how much they can pay and leave a phone number. Over 50,000 San Diego veterans have taken these jobs. The jobs are deleted as soon as they are taken, otherwise 75 veterans would call for each job. That is how great the need is! — We provide a customized, independent HirePatriots website, job boards and blog for each community that participates. They control the content. — We are currently talking with “Mo’s Heroes” about starting one for Los Angeles. (It is great way for organizations and non-profits to attract sponsors and grants too.)
3) Some US veterans do not want a job. They are veteran entrepreneurs. I have written a book for them: The Patriotic Business Plan:Strategies for Sensational Success. This is a cause marketing plan for businesses. It is also sometimes referred to as “purpose driven” marketing plan.
In addition, HirePatriots creates business opportunities for US veterans. For instance, we have our Veterans Green Projects and US Military Maintenance. — I have created multiple profitable business over my life. I mentor business owners, step by step, until they are successfully sustainable.
4) Our dearest program is our Military Marriage Retreats. These are 3 day, free retreats for US veteran married couples. Veterans have a much higher divorce rate than the general populace for obvious reasons. When there are combat deployments the divorce rate for our enlisted military can reach 90%! Veterans in the midst of losing their spouses and families are not good candidates for starting a job or a business. To the best of our knowledge 100% of the veterans that have attended our retreats are still together with their spouses. (We are always seeking sponsors for these wonderful and critically important retreats. The average retreat runs around $10k.)
