A Basic Ingredient to Being an American is the appreciation and the continued support of our US Veterans and their families.
One does not to be Gung Ho about the US Military and its Veterans to appreciate their service to our country and defending Democracies across the world. And perhaps you do not understand why we call them “Heroes.” Certainly, not all of them joined because they were driven by a noble, patriotic purpose. Most join because it is a readily available opportunity to gain maturity, to be involved with others in pursuit of a common mission, to challenge themselves, and to develop the skills to be successful in life. – But for many decades now, being in the US Military also means the likelihood of being stationed in a live combat zone. These American men and women, regardless of their personal reasons for enlisting, risk their lives on our behalf. Too many of them pay a very high price. Every death and wound affects their families, loved ones, and communities too. Each loss is a tear in the fabric of our society.
Patriotic Hearts has been assisting our US Military, Veterans, and their families for 20 years. Our focus has been to reduce the stress that the active military members and their families endure; and, to assist them when they transition out of the military into stable, profitable employment. — Our first program was Hire Patriots. It is free job board for residents and businesses in US communities to use. Post any chores around your home, yard, or business when you need help for a day or two. Then local active duty and veterans, and military spouses can earn some extra income when needed. (And it is always needed!) – In San Diego, where this job board began, tens of thousands of jobs have been posted and taken! It also was awarded by its county’s top businesses for stimulating the local economies. – This is an easy thing for any American to do to show support for our US veterans.
Another effect of this job board is the creation of new Veteran Owned Businesses. When they take dozens of jobs in hauling, painting, landscaping, etc., it is only natural for some to turn it into a personal business. Dozens of these have been created in San Diego too.
